About Texas Tech University

Texas Tech University (TTU) was founded in 1923 as an open research university in Lubbock, Texas, United States. The institution is affiliated with the Universities Research Association and is affiliated with the Texas Tech University System. Originally known as the Texas Technological College, the school had six buildings and 914 students at the time. In its early years, only technical programmes were available. In 1960, business, science, medicine, law, and social sciences were added to the curriculum. 1969 marked the establishment of TTU as a university under its current name. Carnegie Foundation has ranked TTU as a university with the highest research activity.

In Lubbock, TTU's main campus is spread across 1,839 acres and is aesthetically pleasing. The law and medical schools have facilities on the main campus. There are approximately 71 research centres and institutes on the site, including the well-known Influenza Research Centre and the National Wind Research Institute. The 27.5-acre National Ranching Heritage Center, which contains 38 restored historic structures, is located in the northern portion of the campus. Each of the university's libraries houses a vast collection of printed and digital resources pertaining to a variety of disciplines. Students and faculty have access to these resources for learning, teaching, and research purposes.

The 2015-built, 278,000-square-foot Turf Complex features two lacrosse fields, two regulation-size soccer fields, and four flag football fields. In addition, the facility features a picnic area and numerous restrooms. On campus, there are thirteen residence halls and five suites and apartment-style housing facilities. Other campus amenities include an outdoor pool, a health centre, a bike shop, a counselling centre, a climbing wall, and multiple dining options. TTU provides additional services to ensure the safety of its students on campus. TTU has ten academic colleges and two schools that offer more than 150 undergraduate and 100 graduate programmes in the arts, sciences, natural resources, architecture, agricultural sciences, business, human sciences, medicine, media and communication, law, social sciences, engineering, and education. In addition to atmospheric sciences, epidemiology, grid computing, pulsed power, wind energy, and nanophotonics, the students can pursue doctoral degrees in the following research fields: According to the Fall 2019 enrollment report, TTU has 38,803 students from 46 U.S. states and other countries. It has 1,600 full-time faculty members and 188 part-time faculty members.
