About University of Georgia

The University of Georgia (UGA) was established by an act of the General Assembly on January 27, 1785. It is the first state-funded university in the country. In 1804 the first class of UGA students graduated. In 1931, the University System of Georgia took control of the university. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges recognises the university's masters, baccalaureate, doctorate, and specialist degrees (SACSCOC). The university currently contains seventeen schools and colleges that carry out research and teaching activities.

The main campus of the University of Georgia, sometimes known as the North Campus, is located in downtown Athens and spans 762 acres with 465 buildings. Historic structures such as the main library, old college, and the Chapel are used as offices, classrooms, and event spaces on the university's North Campus. UGA has 39,743 acres in 31 Georgia counties, in addition to the Athens campus.

The university's several colleges and institutions, as well as sporting facilities such as Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, Stegman Coliseum, a sports museum, and the Athletic Association, are all located on the South Campus. The university bookshop, Tate Student Centre, and Miller Learning Centre are all located on the Central Campus, which is the busiest. The Georgia Museum of Art, a student leisure centre, visual and performing arts facilities, a health centre, housing halls, a dining facility, and the Georgia Museum of Art are all located on the East Campus. College of Public Health is located on the Health Sciences Campus and comprises four auxiliary divisions: UGA's Gwinnett, UGA's Griffin, UGA's Tifton, and UGA's Terry College of Business.

Agriculture, environment, arts, sciences, business, ecology, education, engineering, design, forestry, natural resources, journalism, mass communication, law, pharmacy, health, social work, and medicine are among the many programmes offered at the University of Georgia. There are around 3,000 academic members and 38,920 students at the university. In 2019, the university will spend $477.5 million on research and development. Its library is one of the best research libraries in the country, with 5.27 million books.
