About University of Indianapolis

The University of Indianapolis is a private university affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The university was founded in 1902 as Indiana Central University and is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Between 1921 through 1975, it was known as Indiana Central College. In 1986, the name of the university was changed to the University of Indianapolis. The Higher Learning Commission has granted it accreditation.

The University's main campus, which spans 65 acres, houses 10 administrative and classroom buildings, seven residence halls, Greyhound Village Apartments and University Lofts, as well as the president's mansion. Freshmen reside on campus 82 percent of the time, and full-time undergraduates live on campus 52 percent of the time.

More than 100 undergraduate degree programmes, over 40 master's degree programmes, and five doctoral degree programmes are available at the university. On the main campus in Indianapolis, it has about 5,500 students, including about 1,400 graduate students. The student-to-faculty ratio at the university is a healthy 13:1. Because of its size, the university is able to provide opportunities for students to work closely with academics. Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences, College of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, College of Applied Behavioral Sciences, School of Business, School of Education, and R.B. Annis School of Engineering are among the university's colleges and schools.

The university fared much higher in the student/faculty interaction category than all other Great Lakes private colleges in the National Survey of Student Engagement. It employs around 600 full- and part-time professors. The university's athletics team competes in NCAA Division II and is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
