If you’re curious about society and how and why it works and want to bring about social change, sociology is for you. You will study society, its diverse communities, social structures and systems that affect people and nations in our globalized world, and research complex social questions. Studying sociology fosters creativity, innovation, critical thinking, analytical problem solving and communication skills essential for successful careers and life. You will be challenged to see the world through the lens of culture, power, and social systems. You also could participate in the Sociology Club or join the Intermountain Social Research Lab, a yearlong intensive research training program in which faculty guide a small group of undergraduate students through developing and executing all aspects of an original research project, from inception to dissemination. An internships in your field of interest could translate to credit hours and offer great on-the-job experience. The Sociology department is also home to Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, and Social Sciences degrees.
