The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies, Division of Pre-Medical and Pre-Health (PMPH) program, offers the Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences (IHS). This program provides students with an opportunity to enhance their academic credentials and to succeed in challenging biomedical science courses with content relevant to their chosen health care profession. IHS students complete multiple required courses throughout their first and second years that provide general knowledge and training essential for a career in health care. Students are also offered personalized guidance from a program advisor as they select from a broad range of elective courses to best meet their needs and interests. Students entering their second year in IHS must decide upon a concentration track and complete a specified number of courses within that concentration track prior to graduation. In this way, the IHS curriculum is both flexible and structured, with the ultimate goal of reinforcing the healthcare career interests of each student. During the second year of the IHS program, students complete a rigorous one-year research project. These projects teach students to communicate complex scientific information and hone their critical thinking and analysis skills. Students with a dedicated interest in biomedical research may choose to complete a mentored research project in a laboratory or clinic. Alternatively, students may choose to complete an independent literature analysis project on the biomedical topic of their choice. Upon completion of the IHS program, students will have a strong integrated view of the biomedical sciences, which provides numerous advantages to graduates, whether using the degree as a springboard for further professional education or for direct entry into the health care workforce.
