The University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in economics.

This degree program offers the opportunity for concentrated study of traditional economic theory as well as specific economic and social issues, including:

• Crime and economics
• Economic development
• Gender and economics
• Health and medical care
• International trade and finance
• Labor relations
• Public finance
• The environment

Each student works with an advisor to create a customized program that meets specific career goals. This type of planning is particularly attractive to students interested in pursuing graduate study in economics, law, business, journalism, or the social sciences.

In addition to coursework, internships and co-op work experiences are available for students interested in careers in business management, government administration, labor relations, economic analysis, banking, and urban planning.

Students benefit from small classes taught by award-winning faculty who have a diversity of specialties. Most hold doctoral degrees—and all engage in research and scholarly activities. Coursework is further enriched with lectures and presentations by visiting scholars and economists from abroad.

Other opportunities include the University's Honors Program and study abroad programs—which range from summer programs to a single semester or a full academic year in over 56 countries.
