The University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in management that includes a choice of minors in Human Capital Management / Entrepreneurship.
The Management Program provides a foundation needed to succeed in a wide range of management careers. Coursework in the major includes a comprehensive base of liberal studies and core management courses—plus courses that provide deeper knowledge of chosen minor areas. The student will gain fundamental skills in the following areas along with specialized skills in the minor areas:
The Human Capital Management minor focuses on developing students’ skills needed to hire, develop and retain talented people as part of an organization’s operational strategy. For further information on this minor, contact Dr. Bahareh Javadizadeh (812-237-2007; Bahareh.Javadizadeh@indstate.edu).
The Entrepreneurship minor provides practical training in how to take customer needs and develop new organizations to supply those needs with products and services. For further information on this minor, contact Dr. Aruna Chandrasekaran (812-237-2087; Aruna.Chandrasekaran@indstate.edu).
Because management is a part of many career paths, the management major combines well with (and compliments) other majors and minors offered by the University.
One of the strengths of the Management Program is that it provides each student with experiential learning opportunities that translate theory into practice enhancing the student’s career readiness. In addition to experiential learning projects associated with coursework, students have the option to gain practical experience by completing a cooperative practicum or an internship.
Students in management are also able to participate in Scott College travel study opportunities. These courses are offered periodically to give students an opportunity for a short-term learning experience in a foreign culture. Over the past few years, students have visited Iceland, Morocco, Brazil, India, Italy and Finland to learn about social / sustainable entrepreneurship and ethics in these countries via visits with entrepreneurs, universities and local businesses.
Students may join and take leadership positions in the professional business fraternities, Delta Sigma Pi and Alpha Kappa Psi. Students interested is human resource management may join the student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, a professional association. In addition, management students may be invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honorary society.
