The field of physics generally involves studying the universe through string theory, particle physics, quantum mechanics and astrophysics. However, engineering physicists are more interested in applying their skills and knowledge to innovation and problem solving in wide ranging areas such as materials science, nanotechnology, quantum computing, lasers, semiconductors and astrophysics. The engineering physics degree differs from other engineering courses of study in that additional mathematics and physics courses are substituted for select upper level courses. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, engineering physics students prepare for rapidly changing careers that overlap traditional boundaries between science and engineering.
