A healthy community doesn't just happen—it takes education, coaching, program development, and, most important, people who care to make a difference. At UAB, you'll gain a full understanding of the human body and prepare for a career helping others live healthy lives.
As you begin the program, we'll sit down with you to help you determine your career goals. Based on those goals, you'll choose a concentration of either community health or human services. In community health, you'll learn about policies, programs, anatomy, and nutrition for the well-being of both individuals and communities. If you choose human services, which is offered both online and on campus, we'll cover topics such as case management, public policy, and intervention.
- Gain hands-on experience with one of UAB's Birmingham partners, including the Alabama Department of Mental Health, Crisis Center of Birmingham, AIDS Alabama, the Red Barn, and the American Red Cross.
- The UAB School of Education is home to the Community Counseling Clinic, which provides mental health services to Birmingham—and recently saw its 1,000th patient.
